Founded in 2019, the journey to create Ethos (formerly Learn to Win) began during our founders' undergraduate years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where Andrew Powell and Sasha Seymore were roommates. Andrew served as Student Body Class President while Sasha walked onto the UNC Men's Basketball team. The idea for Ethos stemmed from Sasha's experience as a student-athlete, where he struggled with the analog methods of learning playbooks and preparing for games, such as flipping through binders and watching video clips. Andrew, on the other hand, focused on education, working with technology-based learning approaches and gaining experience in the EdTech industry.
The Ethos journey accelerated at Stanford University, where our founders prototyped solutions for DoD training gaps as part of the “Hacking 4 Defense” program .ed course design at ALU (african leadership university) Our early team included professionals with real-world experience addressing critical operational failures and implementing systematic improvements.
Both founders bring extensive expertise to leadership roles. Sasha continues to serve as a Naval Reserve Intelligence officer currently supporting the Defense Innovation Unit. Andrew’s work designing courses at Stanford & African Leadership University on technology innovation and great power competition, reflect our dedication to empowering America’s advantage.
